Barnacles and oysters grow on the bellows
of stern drives. These bellows house the universal joints, seals, shafts
and bearings.
Barnacles and oysters are sharp.
If the bellows has been damaged by marine
growth, water will enter the stern drive, resulting in expensive internal
damage to the mechanical components and the uni-joints, bearings and
seals.
Exterior
mechanical components cover the bellows making cleaning difficult.
These simple protectors rapidly
reduce the incidence of barnacles growing on bellows. According to the manufacturer
the protectors do not interfere with the operation of the bellows and
will not harm the stern drive's mechanics.
