SharkShield Freedom 7

The new generation Shark Shield™ Freedom 7 unit is a compact, versatile and lightweight (335g) personal unit designed for snorkellers, swimmers, surfers, scuba divers, spearfishermen and kayakers. This unit has a 7 hour rechargeable battery. (The Freedom 7 replaces the Freedom 4). It is designed to attach to the ankle.

The main body of the unit, comprising the electronics module and a 7 hour rechargeable battery pack, is enclosed in a protective neoprene pouch, which is attached to the lower leg.

Legrope
The unit is fitted to the lower leg via a neoprene pouch. Attached to the pouch is an antenna housing the two electrodes, which trails unobtrusively behind the user. These two electrodes propagate the field into the water, therefore both electrodes must be fully immersed.
The Freedom units are an excellent alternative to the specialized Scuba unit for scuba divers, who also surf or free dive. In fact they are fast becoming the most popular unit for those who scuba dive only.
In tests conducted to date the Freedom 7 has deterred sharks at distances of up to 6M, but with an average distance of 3-4M from the unit.
If using this unit for surfing, please see surfing instructions below.
The Shark Shield™ Freedom 7 Unit comes complete with:
- 7 hour rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride battery pack
- 100-240V battery charger
- 12V adaptor for battery charger
- Neoprene pouch
- Product Instruction Booklet

Surfing Legrope
Freedom 7 Surfing Instructions
- If using the Freedom 7 unit for surfing a Shark Shield leg rope also needs to be purchased. One end of the leg rope attaches approx. half way along the antenna, with the other end attaching to the surfboard. This replaces the surfer's usual leg rope.
- When entering the surf from a reef or rocky shore, keep the unit switched off until in the surf.
- Do not grab the antenna with bare hands to pull the surfboard towards you.
- Feedback from some surfers indicates it is more comfortable to wear the unit with the antenna protruding from the back of the leg, rather than the side. Try it both ways to see what suits you best.
- It may take a couple of surfing sessions before you feel comfortable with your Freedom 7 unit
